The General Directorate of Security and Emergencies of the Government of the Canary Islands, taking into account air quality measurements in the area, has ordered the confinement of new population centers in the municipalities of Los Llanos de Aridane and El Paso, as reported by the Center Emergency and Safety Coordinator (Cecoes) 1-1-2.
The new confinement is agreed as a consequence of the meteorological conditions that govern with a thermal inversion that prevents the dispersion of gases and keeps them at low levels of the atmosphere. This confinement affects about 3,500 people.
Specifically, the confinement of the space between the crossing of Camino Cruz Chica with the LP-2 highway is ordered, continuing west to the crossing with Nicolás Brito Pais, continuing this road to the ring road and through it to the Hoyas Hondas roundabout.
From this point on, the entire area affected by the August fire is included up to the El Paso soccer field, including the area from the west of the LP-3 to the Sombrero roundabout.
Likewise, the neighborhoods of San Borondón, Marina Alta, Marina Baja and La Condesa, all of them located in the municipality of Tazacorte, continue to be confined.
The validity of the declaration has come into force at 9:00 p.m. today, Friday, in application of the Special Plan for Civil Protection and Attention to Emergencies due to Volcanic Risk in the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands (Pevolca) and by virtue of the powers established by the direction of the aforementioned plan, which has updated level 2 (red traffic light) of the emergency situation on La Palma.
The population of confined areas is asked to close doors, windows, shutters and any air intake from outside; confine yourself, if possible, to the innermost rooms; turn off the ventilation and heating; Any system that draws in air from outside must be shut down.
For added security, it is possible to seal, using adhesive tape, the joints of doors and windows; do not use the telephone, as free lines are needed for emergency services; Take with you systems that allow you to communicate or receive information (radio, telephone …); if you are outside, keep in mind that a vehicle is not a safe place (confine yourself to the first building you find nearby) and if you are going on foot, take shelter in the first building you find; do not make movements until indications are given in this regard; use the 1-1-2 phone for emergency situations.
