The Cabildo de Tenerife terminates the agreement to compensate Arico for the landfill

Rodríguez Medina announced that on Thursday there will be a meeting between the two administrations to address this claim from the Ariquero government, which he hopes will provide “the technical and regulatory support” that justifies it. Moment in which he realized whate the last annuity (2018) is pending justification that it received from the agreement that it is trying to reissue and that is linked to the construction of the Plaza de la Villa de Arico (unfinished). The counselor justified the extension of the agreement between 2004 and 2018 arguing that the Cabildo “did not have the financial capacity to respond to the obligations it assumed” during the crisis period and, subsequently, “the City Council was not capable of executing the funds.” Javier Rodríguez ended by assuring that “the Environmental Complex is not going to close. The mayor has no powers to do so.

He thus responded to the warning of the mayor of Arico in that sense, which was recalled by the insular councilor of the PP, Valentín González, who refreshed the councilor on the existence of an institutional plenary agreement of July 28, 2020 to formalize such an agreement – the PSOE is covered by a contrary report from the Administrative Waste Service to justify its refusal – and asked for a sample of the “sensitivity to municipalism” that the island government proclaims. Previously, the counselor of CC Blanca Pérez – who put the matter on the table – demanded the search for formulas to execute the Plenary’s agreement and recommended that the counselor “abandon sectarianism.”

Energy poverty.

Among the motions approved yesterday (all of an institutional nature) stands out the one referring to the creation of an observatory to combat energy poverty on the island. In addition to urging the central government to extend the ban on disconnecting the service to vulnerable people, to work to lower the cost of electricity, to improve the social voucher system and to promote its existence, the initiative of Efraín Medina (CC) establishes that the observatory will offer training and information to citizens on consumption, savings and the interpretation of the receipt, as well as virtual talks, tutorials, personalized consultations and individual cases.

Defense of the autochthonous.

The only proposal that required prolonged negotiation was the one referring to the defense of trawling, traditional, productive, sporting trades, of collectives and ranchers of the coarse breed of Tenerife. In the end there was unanimity, as when requesting that the measures be arbitrated so that the presa canario dog can travel by plane.

No debt to the rondallas.

The insular vice president, Enrique Arriaga, assured that neither the Cabildo nor Ideco has any debt with the Carnival rondallas, who claim 57,000 euros for the services provided in 2019 and 2020. Verónica Messeguer (CC) affirmed that they have not allowed the registration of the supporting documents and that payment requires political will. Arriaga clarified that the sponsorship system used by CC with the rondallas concealed direct subsidies, as Intervention detected. But “we will sit down and find the legal reserve.”

Defeat.

The abstention of Sí Podemos and the vote against CC and PP led to the rejection of the restructuring of the plenary commissions, raised five months after the area changes. The secretary warned that this “will create a serious problem.”

Illegal swimming pool.

Sí Podemos proposed to recover the swimming pool of the Bahía Apartments, in Los Roques (Fasnia), an “illegal” work built on a public beach that will be replaced by a promenade, the president clarified.

The NAP.

Pedro Martín appeared to report on the progress and status of the complaint filed by the CEO of the Technological Institute of Renewable Energies (ITER) before the Prosecutor’s Office for the possible commission of criminal acts. Martín defended, from the veiled criticisms issued by Sí Podemos and the PP, the work of the CEO, Elena Rodríguez, of whom he said that “he has done a magnificent job”, and recalled that the matter is under review, so it is he limited himself to making a chronology of the process.
