The Regional Vice Minister of Tourism, Teresa Berástegui; the president of the Cabildo, Pedro Martín, and the mayor, María Concepción Brito, visited the area accompanied by the general director of Tourism Infrastructure, Fernando Miñarro, and the island director of Tourism, Laura Castro, as well as the president of the Association of Neighbors El Pueblito, Fernando Rodríguez.

The work carried out consists ofn increase the spatial and environmental quality of the promenade, enhance direct perception of the coast, the accesses to the promenade from the upper part and the resting places from which to contemplate the sea. The execution period is until January 2023 and the project contemplates the reinterpretation of the cross section between the city and the sea, the widening of the promenade to turn it into a free space for recreation of the neighbors, the creation of leisure spaces on the edge from the sea as a playground, sports area, fishing areas, terraces for shops and access to the sea; the provision of the necessary services to the beach, the renovation of the facilities that need it and the replacement of the pavement that is necessary.

This project is closely related to the remodeling of the Graciliano Ruiz Rodríguez promenade, which has the same execution period and includes the adaptation of this area, as far as possible, to the accessibility regulations; differentiated resurfacing for each of the uses, the resolution of the drainage of the promenade and the surrounding streets (Acaymo, Agarfa, Amiche and Garoé), the replacement of existing facilities and infrastructures in the area and the placement of new vegetation according to the area in which it is located, as well as a correct lighting.

Modern infrastructures

According to Teresa Berástegui, «with this type of actions the aim is to promote, from Canary Islands Tourism, interventions in all those infrastructures that generate added value to the destination, in this case in the municipality of Candelaria, so that they can improve these environments both for those who visit the island and for the residents of the area ”. It is “that they will allow to have more accessible places and modern infrastructures.”

The president of the Cabildo, Pedro Martín, stated that with this action “we will recover the attractiveness of this area of Candelaria, with an accessible promenade and adequate spaces to see the sea.” In this sense, he stressed that “the next step will be the performance on the beach. We are already working on the project and soon we will be able to carry it out and provide Las Caletillas with a suitable beach ».

The mayor, María Concepción Brito, stated that «We are taking another and very important step to rehabilitate this much-visited stretch of the Candelaria coastline, essential for the tourist and socioeconomic development of Las Caletillas ». I highlight the commitment of the Ministry of Tourism and the Cabildo “in the progress of our municipality by attending to our requests and, especially, those of the neighbors, since citizen participation has been key, highlighting the work of the El Pueblito Neighbors Association” .

Its president, Fernando Rodríguez, thanked the institutions for their support. “We have been waiting for a long time and the start of these works is great news for us. We hope they culminate with the performance on the beach, “he said.

Local values

The general director of Tourist Infrastructure, Fernando Miñarro, remarked that “we have been taking advantage of this time to analyze what actions we must carry out to make the Islands a more sustainable and accessible destination with an offer in which the values stand out. of each one of the municipalities in which they are carried out ”.

Laura Castro, director of Tourism of the Cabildo de Tenerife, valued the role of the El Pueblito Neighborhood Association, “a fundamental part to be able to carry out this project.”
