Latest news on the La Palma volcano

Ensures that the Cabildo works at all times for those affected

SANTA CRUZ DE LA PALMA, Sep 26 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The president of the Cabildo de La Palma, Mariano Hernández Zapata, has lamented the loss of some of Todoque’s symbols after the rapid entry of lava into the neighborhood, where it remained practically without moving in recent days, and which has caused the collapse of the Church tower, emphasizing that, together, the palm trees and the canaries are going to be “stronger than the volcano.”

“The latest information indicates that the lava has made its appearance in an aggressive way, destroying some of the symbols and some of the identity signs of this important population center of Los Llanos de Aridane,” he said during a press conference. held on the afternoon of this Sunday.

He explained that during the last hours there has been an important lava flow that advanced rapidly along the north flank and that joined the main flow, which was the one that had already reached Todoque, while the thin south has also joined the main one. .

The lava had remained for several days in the neighborhood practically stopped but the new contributions have made it continue to advance towards the coast, although it is not known if it will arrive at some point.

Hernández Zapata wanted to send encouragement to the entire neighborhood because “even if he takes our symbols, all together we are going to be stronger than the volcano.”

Likewise, his “enormous pride” was shown for the unity with which the palm trees have faced the eruption, as well as the rest of the archipelago for the “flood” of expressions of affection and solidarity, also coming from “all parts of the world. world”.

To those affected, he wanted to send the message that the Cabildo is not going to let a single minute work for them, highlighting that “no one” is going to forget the palm trees who have lost their homes.

Similarly, the president observed that the first priority to continue without loss of human life and the second is to solve the housing emergency for the affected neighbors.
