The Insular Ring of Social Policies integrates two entities of reference in the care of people with Alzheimer’s disease and their families and caregivers, through which coverage is provided to 636 people and their close environment on the island. These are the Association of Caregivers, Relatives and Friends of people with dependency, Alzheimer’s and other dementias (Acufade) and the Association of Relatives and caregivers of Alzheimer’s patients and other dementias of Tenerife (Afate), which provide a dependency prevention service and promotion of personal autonomy in the different devices they have enabled.
The Cabildo de Tenerife, through the Insular Institute of Social and Socio-Health Care (IASS), has collaborated for years in making these specialized services available, which makes it possible to cover the care of people with the Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias, along with their families and caregivers.
For Acufade, the Insular Ring of Social Policies is a tool that allows “to provide a service free of charge while they process and receive the benefits that correspond to them by the Dependency Law.” This association has reopened a few days ago the six centers that it has on the island, in which 125 people are cared for and they have also provided their care at home.
For his part, Afate values his belonging to the island network and points out that “it gives us the possibility of covering the demand of families and affected people throughout the island to expand the possibilities of help we offer to advise and intervene both in people with dementia as with the needs proposed by their relatives ”.
Comprehensive care from the intervention of different specialized professionals and personalized to each person is a fundamental objective of this public-private collaboration, as well as emotional support and advice on the care of people in their immediate environment who carry out this work.
