Pedro Martín has stated that “it is a program created by the Cabildo to serve those municipalities that have less technical and economic capacity and that they need to guarantee public services in their municipalities, especially after the pandemic. The president of the Island Corporation explained that in the government group he leads “we have not wanted to wait to approve a new Municipal Cooperation Plan, knowing that these are priority actions that will also generate jobs and an economy.”
Another aspect that has been valued as relevant is that the insular institution has found “an excellent predisposition on the part of the municipalities, whose mayors are grateful for this plan that will allow the execution of important works for their municipalities, a work that they themselves have designated.”
The island councilor for Municipal Cooperation and Housing, Zebenzuí Chinea, highlighted that «From the area we have done everything on our part to carry out this program. We are aware of the difficulties of the municipalities, with which we are in permanent contact, to cover these types of demands.
The Insular Program for Priority and / or Urgent Municipal Works includes a total of 40 works in 17 municipalities with up to 20,000 inhabitants. The Cabildo will contribute between 180,000 and 200,000 euros to them, depending on the actions to be carried out.
The works planned in the program are mainly focused on the rehabilitation of squares, lighting systems, remodeling and reforms of changing rooms or cemeteries, as well as asphalting or improving the roofs of municipal facilities, according to the Cabildo.
