The bishop of Tenerife, Bernardo Álvarez, celebrates today, Wednesday, together with the priests of the island of La Palma, a mass at 7:30 p.m. in the Sanctuary of Our Lady of the Snows to ask him “to cease the volcano eruption ».

“We are going to have a celebration with the bishop and with the participation of all the priests, a Eucharist in prayer to stop the eruption of the volcano, we also have to thank God because so far there have been no victims,” explained the rector of the Sanctuary, Antonio Hernández.

The bishop and the priests will ask that there is no personal damage during the remainder of the volcanic crisis on La Palma “and that the material damage be the least,” he said. The priest conveys the “helplessness” felt by families who have had to leave their homes. «It is destroying the houses, the planted areas. What is salvageable, like the animals, have been saved, but houses are impossible, “he said.

For Father Hernández, the images are “chilling” because even though people are saved, they see “their own, their little house in which they have invested their life, their illusion and their savings” disappear and “they have to flee.” He explained that he offered the Cabildo the exercise house in the Sanctuary in case it is necessary to welcome victims. Hernández highlighted the coordination of the authorities and technicians, which allowed the population to be “vigilant.” “There has been perfect coordination,” he said.
