SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Sep 19 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The president of the Canary Islands, Ángel Víctor Torres, has once again conveyed a message of “calm and caution” to the palm tree society in the face of the increase in seismic activity that has been registered on the island of La Palma for a week now.
This has been transmitted on his official Twitter account minutes after the National Geographic Institute (IGN) has registered an earthquake measuring 3.8 on the Richter scale (4.2 according to Involcan data), the highest magnitude recorded so far.
Ángel Víctor Torres has reported that this Sunday there has been a new session of the Pevolca Steering Committee due to the seismic movements on La Palma and has spoken with the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez; the president of the Cabildo de La Palma, Mariano Hernández Zapata, and various ministers.
Torres has indicated that all administrations are coordinated and the protocols are in place to act in the event of a hypothetical volcanic eruption on the island and to guarantee the safety of the entire palm tree population.
