The residents of San Andrés delivered a few weeks ago to the Ministry of Health more than 600 signatures demanding better health care, providing the Health Center of the fishing village with the necessary professionals for proper care. These complaints have been collected by the Canarian Coalition that, as a group, will take to the next municipal plenary session, which will be this Friday, in which they join the neighborhood demands. The CC spokesperson, Juan José Martínez, explained to DIARIO DE AVISOS that, “it is not just about the care of the residents of San Andrés, that clinic serves other towns in Anaga. They need an emergency service, which, although we understand that these services are created with a more insular vision, the case of Anaga is special within the Island ”.
Martínez remarks that “the neighbors are at a considerable distance from the center, they are a dispersed population, due to Anaga’s own characteristics, and they cannot afford to get to the center and there is no doctor because he has gone to a home visit, for example”. He adds that, “health care in places like Anaga also contributes to socioeconomic development, as does education, without schools and without doctors it is very difficult for the population to stay,” he insisted.
The mayor compared Anaga’s need for resources with that covered in points such as La Gomera or El Hierro, which, without meeting the population concentration ratios, an effort is made so that the dispersed population is properly cared for. “In Anaga, although with much less population, the criteria should be the same,” he said. What we ask the Plenary is to pronounce in favor, and we trust that all groups will support it, that health care in the area be improved “. The PP has already shown its support.
The resolutions of the motion go through requesting the reduction of the instability of the physicians, and thus provide the quality of service that is demanded. Also the reinforcement of the specialty of general medicine by enabling as a consultation, starting at nine in the morning or in the afternoon, the room where the clinical analyzes are carried out, once its use has been concluded. And, finally, that the opening of the center be enabled on weekends, guaranteeing an emergency service and considering the location of a fixed ambulance service.
