LAS PALMAS DE GRAN CANARIA, Sep 18 (EUROPA PRESS) –

Ángel Víctor Torres has officially announced this Saturday that he will stand for reelection of the General Secretariat of the Socialist Party of the Canary Islands at the 14th Congress, which will take place on November 19, 20 and 21 on the island of Tenerife, where the party will address the renewal of its various management bodies.

This has been advanced in statements to the media before starting in Gran Canaria an extraordinary Regional Committee in which its Framework Presentation will be presented, the document that collects the programmatic lines of the organization for the next four years and that will be debated in the congress appointment of the month of November.

Torres will formalize his candidacy for reelection next Friday, September 24, to then carry out the necessary endorsement collection that will lead to his definitive proclamation as a candidate on Saturday, October 9. The process of renewal of all the governing bodies of the party will be completed at the 14th Congress.

Ángel Víctor Torres indicated that this appointment comes after four years of “hard” work by the current Executive, who arrived in 2017 with the aim of “removing the PSOE from the opposition” and which he fulfilled by managing to govern in the Canary Islands. after 26 years, also managing to do it in three councils and in more than thirty municipalities.

Torres insisted that it is a work that has been reflected in the institutional reality, responding to “all adversities” and also in a moment “of joy”, since it is the first face-to-face Regional Committee since the beginning of the pandemic, with the assistance of about 300 militants.

If he is reelected secretary general, he advanced that the next four years will serve to consolidate the socialist project, in which he will work for “a Canary Islands that defends itself without complexes, from the pride of our belonging, of what our strategic place means, the possibilities that we have to be a model in climate change, so that there are new employment niches, we can correct the structural poverty that we receive, provide the best social services and the greatest public investment. “

Another of its priority purposes will also be that the social majority “see a government that reflects its difficulties, its fears, its problems; a government that is active and responds by solving them.” In this sense, Torres said that in these two and a half years of difficulties, most of the Canary Islands “have seen a government that has been, that has done its best, making mistakes, but responding to various adversities”, and assured that they will continue to do so “at a different time”, in which one of the objectives will be “to recover the Canary Islands well.”

CHANGES IN THE STRUCTURES.

The leader of the Canarian socialists admitted that in this new stage there will be changes in the different bodies, because “whenever there are changes in the structures, there are changes in people and criteria.” In fact, he stressed that today a Framework Presentation will be approved that will give the “focus” of what the PSOE of the Canary Islands should do in the next four years and, therefore, insisted that there will be “modification of people and new approaches “, but always” betting on being on the side of the social majority “.

Thus, from the next congressional appointment there will be a new general direction and, also, a new regional committee, so “they may be the last official meetings of both bodies and the PSOE is a party that is being renewed.”

According to Torres, the new project “goes through cohesion and social equality; the commitment to a strong Canary Islands; the defense of that Canary Islands, which means a feeling of pride, reaching out firmly in defense of our principles and what we understand that it is fair, but also understanding that it is necessary to seek as much as possible the possibility of agreements because the fight for the fight has left us for many years the worst data in many of the social factors of the Canary Islands “. “Therefore, we have to try to reach agreements for the good of the Canaries,” he added.

REPEAT CANDIDATURE FOR THE PRESIDENCY.

Questioned by the possibility of repeating the candidacy for the Presidency of the Government of the Canary Islands, Ángel Víctor Torres stressed that this will be decided in a second phase; First, you have to start with the organic processes in the Canary Islands (regional, insular and local) and then the candidates for mayor’s offices, councils and government will be chosen. “There is time ahead (…) Things are not decided from top to bottom. It is the militants who end up saying who their representatives are in congresses and in institutions,” he said.

Regarding future pacts, the socialist leader indicated that the Regional Committee established in its day the pact that currently makes up the Canarian Executive (PSOE, NC, ASG and Sí Podemos), as the previous committees have done and “the next”. In any case, he warned that his proposal will be “to continue forming governments of a progressive nature.”
