SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Sep 18 (EUROPA PRESS) –
Maritime Rescue has rescued this Saturday a drifting boat with 47 migrants on board, all of sub-Saharan origin, who intended to reach the Canary Islands, according to sources from the public body.
The intervention began last morning as a result of the warning of a dinghy in the SAR zone of Spanish and Moroccan overlap, for which Salvamento Marítimo mobilized the guard ‘Concepción Arenal’ and the plane ‘Sasemar 103’.
While the aircraft checked the position of suspicious echoes that in the end did not turn out to be boats, the guardamar located the boat at around 10:00 am on Saturday and proceeded to rescue the people who were traveling in it: 37 men and 10 women.
With all of them on board, the ‘Concepción Arenal’ is currently heading towards Puerto del Rosario, in Fuerteventura, where its arrival is scheduled to proceed to disembark at around 5:20 pm.
