SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Sep 18 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The 24-hour monitoring volcanic surveillance network of the National Geographic Institute (IGN) has detected a total of 5,391 earthquakes in the Cumbre Vieja area since the beginning of this new seismic outbreak, of which 1,102 have been located.
As reported by the IGN, the seismic activity in Cumbre Vieja, which began on September 11 at 04.18 am (Canary time), has decreased in the last 48 hours; However, in the last 12 hours there has been a slight increase with an earthquake of magnitude 3.2 mbLg located at 04.26 hours today, at a depth of 0.1 km, which has been felt by the population with intensity III (EMS98).
The maximum accumulated vertical deformation is around 10 cm in the area close to seismicity and its distribution is still compatible with a center of pressure in this area. These movements have been observed both with the island’s GNSS network and through InSAR data (Sentinel-1).
