The Cabildo of Tenerife has launched a new care service for migrants, carried out by groups and associations in Tenerife adhered to the Tenerife Isla Solidaria program, managed by Sinpromi, for more than a month. This line of support for migrants gives information, help and referral to the resources that are in Tenerife, as well as guidance in the management and processing of aid, training adapted to the needs of each person and also enables the development of volunteer actions.
Likewise, the migrant care service offers third sector entities information and advice on existing resources, training on migration and resource management and the promotion of the network of entities with the aim of promoting social inclusion. and the fight against racism, xenophobia or other forms of hatred.
The president of the Council of Tenerife, Pedro MartinTogether with the counselor for Social Action, Marian Franquet, and the CEO of Citizen Participation and Diversity, Nauzet Gugliotta, they presented this program for people who have come to the Island from other countries and who are in a vulnerable situation. In less than two months, since the service began, a total of 25 revitalization activities have already been carried out through different entities in which meetings have been held with groups and associations to make it known. Waiting for the new Volunteer Office to open in Santa Cruz, the service serves migrants at the provisional headquarters of the Tenerife Isla Solidaria program, in the metropolitan area, as well as in the north and south of Tenerife.
Pedro Martín explained that this resource “was born out of a situation of extreme need, when it was necessary to organize the way to get food to many people during confinement.” “We saw that there was a specific need. Now it is a further step in the care, accompaniment and guidance of migrants, through the entities that assist them in their day-to-day life. ” The island president announced that the Cabildo will monitor the operation of the service, which also has its own staff and the support of Tenerife Isla Solidaria. “We have a lot of work to do, too, in the field of pedagogy. We must remove prejudices, eliminate hoaxes and transmit an inclusive message in the face of xenophobic discourses that other people want to promote, ”Martín made clear.
Marián Franquet addressed the representatives of the thirty entities that attended a telematic meeting to detail that the main objective of this service is “to facilitate social inclusion the collective of migrants, offer them comprehensive care and guarantee compliance with the human rights of all citizens, regardless of their place of origin. The appeal arose from an idea of the Sí Podemos Canarias group, an external partner of the island government, and guarantees direct treatment of migrants residing on the Island, as well as the entities that work directly with them.
