In line with what was proposed by the employers, the nationalist mayors of Granadilla de Abona and San Miguel de Abona; the socialists of Arona, Adeje and Guía de Isora and the popular of Santiago del Teide demand that AENA respond to the Tenerife South Airport at the level that it requires to be one of the most profitable facilities in the national network and to do so “as soon as possible”, in the words of the councilor from Adejero, José Miguel Rodríguez Fraga.

Granadilla de Abona.

José Domingo Regalado defends the need to build a new terminal at the airport that houses the municipality that it manages. “Improving the gateway for millions of people to Tenerife cannot depend on the remains of what is not invested in other airports.” A reflection that leads the mayor of Granada to propose that “Tenerife needs a modern, spacious, architecturally unique terminal in line with one of the best tourist destinations in the world.”

Regalado is in favor of “not patching up what already exists, but working together to achieve the project and the investment that Tenerife South Airport needs.” With this, it adds to what has been stated so far by the president of the Cabildo, Pedro Martín, and the representation of the employers in the province.

Arona.

Unit that reinforces the mayor of Aronero, José Julián Mena, for whom «Building the new terminal is the priority for Tenerife Sur, above the second track right now. ‘ With the perspective that it is a matter that exceeds the region and that it has “strategic character for the Island and for the province”, Mena argues that a “new and modern terminal is needed, similar in its management to those that have the leading airports in Spain ».

San Miguel de Abona.

Arturo González, mayor of San Miguel, raises a meeting between administrations, businessmen and the South “To claim a more than just investment in what is the gateway to what we eat, which is tourism.” The San Miguel mayor considers it “obvious” that the conditions at the Reina Sofía airport (which, in part, is also on the land of his municipality) “are not the best for a tourist destination like ours.” Faced with such a situation, “we must be united to demand that the new terminal be included in AENA’s investment forecasts.” Another example of the unanimous practice that exists among the mayors of the area is the argument of the discrimination suffered by Tenerife Sur in terms of investment that allows it to raise its quality. “The Canary Islands cannot be less than other autonomous communities”, highlights the councilor of San Miguel de Abona. Arturo González calls to work from unity, because “with the union when claiming we will get what belongs to us, not gifts.”

Adeje.

«Aena must invest more and better in the airport. It has been a demand for many years and not only from the municipalities of the South, but from the entire Island. José Miguel Rodríguez Fraga starts from that maxim and that “the Reina Sofía is a key infrastructure in the development of the industry that sustains our economy” to state that “we demand from Aena a master plan and improvement project, an integral idea that be the solution for the next 20 or 30 years, not just patches.

The mayor of Adejero calls for «an investment at the level of the destination that is Tenerife, at the level of business and passenger levels from the airport itself and at the highest level of modernity ». Rodríguez Fraga joins those who demand “a solid project that leaves us with a modern airport for several decades and that takes into account all the real needs of passengers and operators.” In any case, “it should be done as soon as possible, but above all, it should be done well.” It establishes that it is “the line in which the Cabildo is working” and for which it will maintain the demands “to those responsible for AENA” in the coming weeks. In line with its counterparts in the environment, it ensures that “they are not worth patches, but a master plan and a comprehensive solution for the airport.”

Guia de Isora.

“We must claim a new terminal in line with the importance of this airport,” says Josefa Mesa. The mayor Isorana rejects “the works in pieces”, demands a “comprehensive action that involves a reversal of the current situation.” To do this, he hopes that AENA will commit to investing “for the entire airport infrastructure of Tenerife South.” In line with what was raised by the president of the Cabildo, Pedro Martín, before AENA – he claims “much more” than 3.5 million euros to develop a comprehensive project for the Reina Sofía – Mesa wants “the project that the south of Tenerife and the Island ». The mayor agrees that the municipal unit around this demand is precious and concludes by raising a demand: “The current image of Tenerife South must be totally transformed.”

Santiago del Teide.

The only mayor of the Popular Party in the region, Emilio Navarro, warns that «If we lose this opportunity, until 2027 we will not be able to do anything. Something that the Island cannot bear ». It affects the condition of “airport of a tourist destination of the highest level” and introduces the argument that “we raised the demand for a work granted in the previous legislature.” In addition to being “essential”, the Santiago councilor is resounding in demanding that AENA “consign this fundamental investment for Tenerife” in the DORA II. “It is surprising that the PSOE has not succeeded, being the ruling party in the State.”
