The Government of the Canary Islands organizes this Monday and Tuesday the days ‘Trata: silence is not an option’, which will be held in Tenerife and Gran Canaria in order to create a space for debate and awareness in relation to the trafficking of girls and women for the purpose of sexual exploitation.
In the presentation of the conference, which was attended by the director of social cinema, Mabel Lozano, the director of the Canarian Institute of Equality (ICI), Kika Fumero, said that the Government of the Canary Islands believes it necessary to continue insisting and approaching the young people “so that they are the ones who are directly challenged with the trafficking of women, especially if we take into account that, according to the study carried out by the ICI, 40 percent of young Canarian men consume pornography as a form of development of their own sexuality. “
For her part, Mabel Lozano emphasized the need to raise awareness in society about the trafficking and sexual exploitation of girls and women because, she pointed out, “we are talking about one of the most serious phenomena of this century: slavery.” .
The conference aims to make visible and make a call to society about the dramatic situation of women subjected to trafficking.
For this, various audiovisual materials will be exhibited, including the short ‘Biography of the Corpse of a Woman’, the work of the director of social cinema, panelist on trafficking, prostitution and pornography, Mabel Lozano.
In addition, as explained by Fumero, the Canarian Institute of Equality will carry out a campaign through the media and social networks, lasting four weeks, under the slogan ‘Silence not an option’, focused on raising awareness in society on the matter trafficking in women and girls for the purpose of sexual exploitation, on the occasion of the ‘International Day Against Trafficking and Sexual Exploitation’, which is commemorated on September 23.
CONFERENCES ‘TRATA: SILENCE IS NOT AN OPTION’
In his speech, Fumero explained that the conference will take place in Tenerife, this Monday, and Gran Canaria, on September 14, both in person and via streaming, in two daily sessions, in the morning and in the afternoon.
Thus, various audiovisual material will be addressed, director of social cinema, panelist on trafficking, prostitution and pornography, Mabel Lozano, the figure of the pimp will be debated and the women murdered in prostitution will be given a voice through the short film “‘ Biography of the Corpse of a Woman ‘, recently awarded a Goya.
Likewise, the reasons that lead to the consumption of prostitution by young people will be studied in depth.
The conference will be held this Monday at the Hotel Escuela in Santa Cruz de Tenerife and on Tuesday at Talleres Palermo, in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, with double sessions on both islands in the morning or afternoon.
