The mayor of La Guancha, Antonio Hernández, according to the guidelines set by the General Directorate of Public Health, has decided this Monday morning to restrict the drinking water consumption from the general network for drinking, cooking or preparing food, due to a spike in fluoride levels. The measure affects almost half of the local population, specifically to ten nuclei of the northwest face of the town: El Convento, Las Montañetas, Las Crucitas, Llano de Méndez, Las Sorribas, Las Longueras, Las Cucharas, Hoya de Pablos, Santo Domingo and El Pinalete.
The new temporary restriction is due to a breakdown suffered days ago in the electricity supply of the Cruz de los Tarifes EDAS, leaving it blocked for a few hours. This fact affected the Montefrío and El Pinalete reservoirs, with an extreme drop in their treated water levels. The extraordinary injection of raw water to avoid the general interruption of the service caused a slight increase in fluoride levels (4.2 and 4.3 mg / l. It is expected that over the next few days, and after the relevant samples control, the optimal levels of the affected parameter are recovered and, with this, the restriction in force is suspended.
The Guanchero Consistory recalls that the prohibition on the consumption of water for children under 8 years of age is still active throughout the town.
