The also president of the Cabildo de La Gomera maintains that the Budgets of the Canary Islands for next year must include five million euros for this purpose, another 10 million in the years 2023 and 2024 and a final item, in 2025, which completes the cost of the entire action, which amounts to around 40 million euros.

This approach starts from the need to “be practical” and assumes «Go from the entertainment that has been up to here, playing with an infrastructure that had and continues to make sense», alluding to the project of the Port of Fonsalía. He admits that more than 20 years have passed “since Adán Martín raised it in his proposal for the Trans-island Axis of Infrastructures and Transport” and that “now we are in another era, with a different sensibility.”

«Fonsalía will not leave because everyone left that ship, except ASG»

Casimiro Curbelo – President of the Cabildo de La Gomera

The turn in the debate on the construction of the Port of Fonsalía leads Curbelo to assure: “I know that the solution is this” and the one that he puts on the table of the Pact of the flowers. It discards the cable-stayed of the Port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, «a nonsense», because it is equivalent to backtracking the maritime connection of La Gomera until before the year 1974, with crossings of between 9 and 14 hours. It also rejects the use of the Port of Granadilla, “because it is not used for the communications of these ships.” The president of Gomera is clear that “The solution is Los Cristianos.”

For this reason, he hopes that the corresponding study will be prepared “before the end of the year, just in the month that we discuss the budgets.” Curbelo warns about it: «In that month they will all be portrayed. I want to see them. Either it is contemplated or there will be an amendment by the Gomera Socialist Group for this purpose. It will be agreed and if it is not agreed, it is required.

See you later to Fonsalía

In his analysis of the evolution of events, Casimiro Curbelo concludes that the Port of Fonsalía “is not going to leave because everyone abandoned that ship, except ASG. A ship that everyone embarked on, except Yes We Can Canarias ». He speaks of his partners in the Canarian Government and, although he reserves the reasons why he believes that Nueva Canarias went from yes to no to the project, the PSOE says that “Flatters the ears of those who raised problems” to the Port of Fonsalía. It alludes to the announcement made by Sebastián Franquis and Pedro Martín –regional councilor for Public Works and president of the Tenerife Council, respectively– of the preparation of a study to determine the solution for maritime traffic between the Western Islands.

    September 11, 2021

With the expiration of the environmental impact statement confirmed and with the increase in pronouncements against it, the Government of the Canary Islands and the Cabildo of Tenerife announce the preparation of a study on possible alternatives for maritime connectivity between the Western Islands.

“We must not do politics with what makes up the islands and unites them, and the maritime connections do it”, reflects the president of the Gomera Socialist Group. CUrbelo insists that the connectivity between Tenerife, La Palma, La Gomera and El Hierro passes through the Port of Los Cristianos. For this reason, he emphasizes that his approach is “to move from theory to practice, include the budget allocation for next year, develop projects and coordinate with the mayor of Arona.”

Curbelo defends that his proposal is “a solution for connectivity on land and on the offshore platform in Los Cristianos, including the coordination of ship traffic. It is about being practical and leaving the demagoguery.
