The Municipal Institute of Social Care (IMAS) of the Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council develops a comprehensive program, in collaboration with the Canarian Association of Relatives and People with Mental Illness (AFES), which currently covers about 150 people. The councilor for Social Action, Rosario González, visited the AFES facilities in the capital this week to inquire about the work methodology they apply with their users and was also able to check, first-hand, the different workshops and activities that take place in this site.
“We are very satisfied -says González- with the work carried out by AFES in our municipality, since the comprehensive guidance and support service in mental health is a very useful action plan for the users themselves and their families” and adds that “only You have to see how they get involved in the occupational workshops they carry out and the wide offer they have in terms of crafts, urban gardening and knowledge of new technologies, ”said the councilor.
AFES served, during the last year, a total of 159 people (72 men and 87 women) residing in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. He offered information about the family care program to all the people who requested it and referred others to some of the initiatives he has underway (psychological care, psychoeducation, mutual aid group and family respite). For the execution of all these projects, AFES has a social worker and two volunteers who are in charge of giving workshops and specialized talks.
