The mayor of Garachico, José Heriberto González (CC), announces that the works contracting table will meet next week and that he hopes that the works will be awarded during the remainder of the month so that they can begin in October. The execution period is about 10 months, so the president hopes to have the music school ready by the end of next year 2022. The investment necessary to execute this new property comes mostly from the Cooperation Plan with the Cabildo de Tenerife. The Northern City Council has assumed the process of contracting and subsequent monitoring of the works.
This project, valued at around 800,000 euros, is a fundamental action for the Villa y Puerto
González points out that the City Council has not wanted to take full advantage of the buildable area of the plot to generate new open spaces and reduce the volume of a block that they consider to be clogged. “We have proposed a one-story building, with a large interior patio, which on one of its sides will have a small square to vent an area that is surrounded by a two or three-story high building. There was the possibility of building a second floor, but we preferred to keep one and make that environment more livable and pleasant. In the future, if necessary, we could consider an extension, ”explains the mayor. The more than 200 students who currently attend the Regional School of Music receive their classes at the Casa de Piedra, a temporary location due to the works that have been carried out in the old San Isidoro school, which will be their temporary headquarters. With this new building, which could be available for the 2022-2023 academic year, Garachico frees the use of the Stone House and, in addition, will be able to use the old school in a building for training courses for employment, since it will have several approved classrooms.
San Isidoro: temporary use
“With the latest actions carried out in San Isidoro”, valued at more than 500,000 euros, “in Garachico we will be able to have approved and fully accessible classrooms for courses and Training Programs in Alternation with Employment (PFAE). A need that until now we had not covered in the municipality ”, emphasizes González. While the new musical teaching headquarters are being executed, San Isidoro will be used temporarily as a music school
The plot of almost a thousand square meters where the new regional music school will be built is located between El Sol, Martín de Andújar, Conde de El Palmar and Cirilo Rojo de Armas streets.
