The Councilor for Infrastructure, Dámaso Arteaga, insisted yesterday that Imeldo Serís Street will be open to pedestrian traffic in December. The mayor defended that, despite all the setbacks that this intervention has encountered, the established deadlines will be met, something that the opposition in the Santa Cruz City Council questioned, since, until now, it has not been has managed to meet the times set for each phase. To comply with the total duration of the work (12 months), of which 70% has already been executed according to the mayor of Infrastructure, efforts will be redoubled starting in October with the implementation of a second team of work, which will start working from the intersection of Valentín Sanz in an upward direction, until it meets the work that comes down from Weyler. “In this way, both teams will work until they find phase 4 with phase 5,” defended Arteaga, who clarified that this does not mean that the number of workers will increase, but that they will divide to advance faster.
The councilor defended that the complexity of the work, with the numerous difficulties that have been encountered in the first three phases of the remodeling of the central street, is what has prevented the fulfillment of the times of the first phases, but that now it will go faster.
From Cs, Matilde Zambudio, who requested the appearance of Arteaga, launched an order to the Councilor for Infrastructure: “If the work has not been completed in November, are you going to draw up a support plan for the merchants in the area?” And is that the spokeswoman for Cs questioned whether businesses can take advantage of the Christmas campaign. “If they are not going to comply, say so now, because at least they will be able to make a forecast. Do not be fooled any more with the deadlines, “he added.
The mayor of the PSOE, José Ángel Martín, expressed himself along the same lines. “So far they have not complied with any of the phases, and that street is still closed. They have not stopped failing to meet the deadlines that they have been giving, so now we have no reason to believe that it will not be the same ”.
Yaiza Gorrín (UP) supported the need to provide the merchants with a support plan, since, like the rest of the groups, they expressed their distrust that the work would end in December.
Canalization
Arteaga, at the end of the Control Commission, continued to defend that the street will be open to the public in December, although he clarified that it is possible that the work is not yet finished. And it is that “we will be able to have the surface almost finished, in the absence of some finishes, but we will continue working under the surface.”
Asked what he meant by that, he explained that “as the work progresses, at the height of Teowaldo Power street, it has been found that the canalization of the old oil ravine is in good enough condition not to have to lift everything, as we had to do in the early phases of the work. This will allow the work to be completed by reinforcing the roof of that pipeline, to correct the leaks it presents. “
