SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Sep 9 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The CC-PNC group in the Cabildo de Tenerife demands that Aena allocate a good part of the 1,700 million euros that it had planned to invest in the El Prat Airport to the construction of the new terminal at the Tenerife South Airport.
The nationalist spokesman, Carlos Alonso, points out in a note that the announcement by the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda to suspend the Barcelona-El Prat Airport expansion project “is a historic opportunity that we must take advantage of so that Aena allocates part of those resources to the new terminal of the South Airport “.
For Alonso, “there is no longer any economic reason for AENA and the Government of Spain to say that there are no funds available for the execution of the Tenerife project, since the works do not reach 1,700 million euros.”
Thus, it indicates that “now more than ever” it is necessary to “unanimously demand that they comply with an airport that provides many benefits and needs a deep remodeling.”
The CC-PNC spokesperson points out that his group requested an extraordinary plenary session to be held on September 20 “to seek a unanimous position from all political forces and social agents and demand its immediate execution.”
In his opinion, “Tenerife is playing its future because it is a strategic tourist infrastructure and we must demand that its construction be included in the 2022-2026 Airport Regulation Document and executed immediately”.
The CC-PNC group will present in the extraordinary plenary session a proposal for an institutional agreement in which, among other measures, it requests Aena and the Government of Spain to include the new Tenerife South airport terminal in the DORA II 2022-2026 as a strategic investment, so that it can be put into service before the end of the programming period foreseen in the document.
