SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Sep 9 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Canary Islands Coalition of Tenerife has opened a period of internal debate to review its position on the Fonsalía port project in which militants and leaders are going to analyze the suitability of its planned construction in the municipality of Guía de Isora.
CC explains in a note that the debate on Fonsalía “also enters into its analysis of the island’s development strategy from the point of view of protecting the environment, the economy, employment and tourism, in addition to bringing together and evaluating the different sensitivities of the training regarding this matter “.
The nationalists, they indicate, defend the territorial integrity and the “ecological health” of the island and the Canary Islands with a “responsible” exercise of debate and internal democracy and in parallel, meetings and meetings will be held with different organizations, groups and specialists to gather all the opinions and sensitivities that this project elicits.
“We open to debate with our bases and specialists the solutions in a democratic and open process in which the defense of the natural and environmental heritage of Tenerife must be combined with a sustainable development of infrastructures”, they detail.
The Tenerife nationalists, in this way, analyze the situation of the Fonsalía project after the expiration of the Environmental Impact Declaration (EIS), a situation that makes the viability of this port “null” for the next few years.
For CC de Tenerife, “the island is currently in a situation in which the lack of political action and lack of investment weighs down its development, which makes Tenerife lose political, economic and social leadership weight, and this is only fault of the PSOE, Pedro Martín and the Government of Ángel Víctor Torres “.
Tenerife’s nationalists accuse the president of the Tenerife Council, Pedro Martín, of “being stubborn with the Fonsalía port project which, precisely, is planned in Guía de Isora, where he was mayor for many years.”
In his opinion, “this has also led to an internal division of the PSOE which is causing Tenerife to lose weight, the island cannot continue to pay for the weakness of the regional and Tenerife PSOE, the first submissive to Madrid and the second weakened by the internal struggles and incapable of defending the needs of Tenerife before his party and before the regional government “.
Tenerife’s nationalists understand that the island “needs real solutions in the short term, that are viable and that offer solutions in the coming years, and this will probably not happen through Fonsalía, but rather to improve the port of Los Cristianos and expand services in the Port of Granadilla “.
LACK OF INTEREST FROM THE PSOE
With regard to Los Cristianos, they point out that “from the Cabildo and the Government of the Canary Islands this infrastructure has been allowed to collapse, which is a clear example of the lack of interest of the Cabildo and the Government, both in the hands of the PSOE, with this infrastructure “.
Thus, they indicate that it is essential “to make a strong bet in Los Cristianos due to its potential, since its main problem is access, which would lead us to carry out actions on land and would not cause environmental damage in the area.”
These actions, they point out, “would be used to promote a tourist and economic rehabilitation of Los Cristianos.”
Regarding the port of Granadilla, from CC de Tenerife they indicate that this facility “is an asset that the island has for the present and the future, it has already been built, with which its uses could be rethought and expanded.”
They also affirm that “another debate will also be the future of the port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, which is being allowed to die because of the Government of Spain and the Canary Islands.”
