The day

The bet of Cross port for him summer carnival remains in times of pandemic and, after a very limited edition in 2020, the Tenerife Summer Carnival, which also aspires to become the benchmark at the regional level, In 2021, it retakes the election of its king and takes on the challenge of organizing the first post-covid arena. Without forgetting the limitations imposed by the pandemic, the tourist city wants to stay at the forefront of the hand of the artistic director of the Santa Cruz Carnival, Enrique Camacho.

The presentation of the 2021 Summer Carnival took place this Monday at Lago Martiánez, with the presence of 12 of the 15 candidates for king.

The two main acts will be this Friday the 10th, with the election of the second Carnival King among 15 candidates, and on Saturday the 11th, with a bullring that will tour inside the Martiánez Lake for the enjoyment of a limited number of spectators. The capacity of the gala, which will take place on a stage located above the pools, has been limited to 600 people to adapt to sanitary restrictions. In addition, the Carnival Forum will return to the Vallemar hotel this Wednesday 8 and Thursday 9 to analyze new trends in the party and propose alternatives to the current situation.

The mayor of Porto, Marco González (PSOE), appreciates the involvement of the designers and “the courage before what they will say” of the 15 candidates for the title of King of Carnival, which are twice as many as those who participated in the first edition, in 2019. In addition, it underlines the importance that this carnival will have in promoting tourism in the city in markets such as Germany, “where they also have a lot of carnival tradition.”

The Portuense president values the insular and integrating vocation of the «Unique Summer Carnival in the Canary Islands», what is “Open to groups from all over the island”. As a result of participatory work, Puerto de la Cruz appreciates “the involvement of the rest of the municipalities so that this carnival is representative of the one that is celebrated throughout the island and acts as a unique tourist projection tool in these summer months,” he emphasizes. Gonzalez.

The Party Councilor, Alberto Castilla (PSOE), highlights the importance of the signing of Enrique Camacho: “We wanted the best to be in charge of a party, which is also an expression of our culture that transcends other countries.” Of the forum he said that it will be an opportunity to “speak and make more carnival.”

Camacho thanks Puerto de la Cruz for the job opportunity that this September carnival offers to “a very punished sector.” Remember that “this is not circus and bread, but a reality that feeds many people” and that, in addition, it collaborates in the promotion of tourism and economic development. Without revealing details of the gala, he points out that it is a show that “is yet to be done”, since it has only experienced one edition in 2019, and in 2021 “it will be different again.”

The mayor added that the Summer Carnival “is not born to compete but to coexist” and that, at the same time, it can be a good showcase and “a kind of beginning of the course” for other celebrations such as the Carnival of Santa Cruz de Tenerife. Regarding the choice of the Lake as the setting, also on Sunday 12 of the election of Miss Gold, Marco González highlights that in just two years it has already hosted “more than 200 events.”

All the information about the Summer Carnival program is available on the web www.carnavalpuertodelacruz.es/verano. There will be no mass events or dances in the street, but the Trampantojo Route will be organized, a gastronomic bet that combines carnival and gastronomy, and Cocktails.
