The person responsible for more than 30 years for the design and manufacture of the central carpet of the Corpus of Tacoronte, Juan Fajardo, was in charge of officially starting this Sunday at Festivities of the Christ of Sorrows, which after the 2020 hiatus return to recover the face-to-face acts. The reading of the proclamation took place in the Óscar Domínguez Room of the Casa de la Cultura, with a very limited capacity.
For the mayor, Jose Daniel Diaz Armas (NC), these will be “Different parties”, in which little by little they try to recover more acts, but without crowds: «We want music to return, that little by little normality enters our lives and we can respond to the demand of people who want a essential incorporation of cultural events ”.
In this edition of the festivities, still conditioned by the restrictions of the pandemic, the City Council has designed a program that will take place mainly on the central stage of the Plaza del Cristo, “which we want to become an open-air auditorium, with all the security guarantees, where all events will be held with a maximum capacity of 500 seats, ”Díaz announced.
The mayor acknowledged that in this edition the acts “will be more modest, but no less interesting,” and he highlighted the two elections of the queens of the festivities, that of the Art Festival and that of La Vendimia, “which on this occasion will be dedicated to honoring the tacoronteras chosen for these honors in the last decade.” In this edition the processions of Christ will not be held either, but the fireworks will be held, which will be launched into the sky after the religious function of each of the two main Saturdays.
The program for the Fiestas del Cristo de los Dolores de Tacoronte in 2021 is full of exhibitions; musical acts, with two tributes, one to Queen and one to the Rolling Stones; theater; crafts, and many other proposals that can be consulted on the website and the City Council portals, since this year the traditional hand program will not be distributed.
