SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Sep 6 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Secretary General of Sepca, Manuel González, has warned this Monday that the union will go to court if the Government of the Canary Islands, through the decree law that will be published this Monday in the Official Gazette of the Canary Islands (BOC) , tries to “coerce” public employees to get vaccinated through the obligation to present a PCR or a negative test to be able to carry out their work.
In a statement released by the organization, González has criticized that the Government of the Canary Islands has decided to opt for the “unilateral” route and has not summoned the unions to work tables or Public Function when there is a possible “violation of fundamental rights” .
In his opinion, this decree implies a modification of working conditions, and maintains that the Executive “is missing the mark” by putting the focus of infections in the public sector when all preventive measures have already been taken.
According to González, the decree law is “very wrong” because it has not counted on the economic and social agents, and although he understands that public workers and citizens have a “responsibility” to prevent the spread of the pandemic, he points out that ” respect “the individual freedoms of those who” for ideological, religious, or very personal fears or issues “decide not to get vaccinated.
