The sociologist and expert in equality policies, hate crimes and discrimination, in addition to being an active collaborator for 23 years with the Los Realejos Town Hall, Patricia G. Ojeda, donated this week to the Department of Equality of Los Realejos a total of 700 feminist-themed books, including women’s biographies, gender studies and issues on equality policies. Although these are mainly essays, some 80 biographies of relevant women stand out, “which will allow royal citizenship an approach to the contribution of these women throughout history,” according to the local government (PP).
Ojeda pointed out that it is your personal library, “a highly specialized collection, which has been nourished over the last thirty years by all the novelties that hit the publishing market in this area, and which I had long wanted it to be accessible and enjoyable by other people“.
The Councilor for Equality of Los Realejos, Macarena Hernandez (PP), received the copies last Friday from the sociologist herself thanking her for her generosity, acknowledging her gesture and having chosen Los Realejos as the destination of this magnificent and extensive bibliographic collection “that will be added to the bibliographic endowment that the Department of Equality has been acquiring in recent years, which will make up one of the most complete municipal public compendia that we will make accessible with the creation of the Violet Spaces that we will enable, as a special section with a specialized fund, in the Viera y Clavijo Municipal Library and in study rooms“.
“For a long time, I wanted it to be accessible and enjoyable by other people.”
During the next few weeks, the donated volumes will be cataloged, to later proceed to access for reading and loan. This action complements the implementation of the commitments in matters of Culture of the II Municipal Plan for Equality between Women and Men of Los Realejos.
The Los Realejos Town Hall recognizes the work carried out by this professional in the field for more than 2 decades in the town, her direct involvement in the two Equality plans developed to date and the preparations for the third document, in addition to this gesture that “evidences his bond and affection with this municipality and its people”.
