The Los Realejos City Council will collect in a future publication the extensive intangible heritage that the municipality treasures. It will be a 408-page book that will pay tribute to the realejeros who have made it possible throughout history for this northern town to be “the most festive town in Spain.”
The mayor, Manuel Domínguez (PP), highlights that “this vast intangible heritage that we treasure is manifested mainly in its traditional festivals, a living and dynamic legacy that highlights the identity and the way of feeling and celebrating of a people that pamper some traditions that they carry in their memory.
For Domínguez, «that we are the municipality with the most parties in Spain gives an idea of the happy and hard-working character of our people, who spare no effort through their neighborhood commissions to offer for a few days some notes of culture, leisure and healthy fun , that after the hard daily work comforts the spirit and makes us a little happier ».
The Councilor for Festivities of the consistory, José David Cabrera Martín, emphasizes that “this book is a chronological journey through our festive heritage, from the perspective of a royal lover of his people and their traditions, Isidro Felipe Acosta. A rich and meaningful journey that will allow us, thanks to their care and dedication, to delve into the ins and outs of each holiday, as well as having the opportunity to relive many of the moments captured. A publication that comes to make our ethnographic and cultural wealth visible ».
The mayor highlights that “we have spent two difficult years due to a pandemic that has paralyzed our lives and has been a severe blow to the economy. The festivities have not been alien to this global health alert and they have had to stop, but from the inside, faith, hope and the five senses are palpable and grow at the service of a set of devotional milestones that have not said goodbye, but they have taken a breath to return with renewed illusion.
