The two beaches of Granadilla that had been closed due to contamination of the E.coli bacteria reopened to the bathroom

The City Council of Granadilla de Abona, in the south of the island of Tenerife, has reopened this Sunday the Leocadio Machado beaches, in El Médano, and Los Abrigos, after analyzing their waters and verifying that the parameters are correct and are suitable for bathroom.

The municipal government closed the beaches last Friday after the company that was awarded the water analysis service in the bathing areas detected a contamination index of the Escherichia coli (E.coli) microbe above the allowed one.

The results of the counter-analysis have confirmed that the bathroom ban can be lifted. The City Council maintains that the decision to close the beaches was taken “as a precaution.”

On the other hand, the Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council has recommended not to bathe in Las Gaviotas beach due to the appearance of hydrocarbon remains. This substance has also appeared near the Las Teresitas fishermen’s guild, in the capital, in Candelaria and Arafo.

From Salvamento Marítimo they reported this Saturday that air and maritime means had been mobilized to carry out an “exhaustive surveillance” and that they had barely found contamination in the sea. The origin of the spill, they emphasize, “is not determined.”

From Salvamento they detail that on August 31, the Salvamar Tenerife boat detected “some sporadic cookie” in front of Radazul, specifically, three pitched balls. Samples were taken and sent to the laboratory for analysis, with no results for now. The next day, a plane from the 112 emergency coordination center flew over the area and did not detect anything at sea.

The puddles of Los Silos, with dead fish

The puddle of Los Chochos (Los Silos), also in Tenerife, dawned on Saturday with dozens of dead fish on the surface. In statements to this newspaper, the municipal body affirms that the pool has suffered the “fish tank effect, because of the heat and as there was no renewal with the high tide of the water, there was no oxygen and some fish appeared floating.” However, the Consistory has decided to take samples of the water and send them to be analyzed in case it is not the hypothesis that is being considered so far.
