To BE or not to be SERdas, SERdos? is the motto of the citizen awareness campaign launched by the Santa Úrsula City Council in order to dissuade the population from depositing belongings, debris and any type of garbage in the streets, natural spaces and public places of the municipality. The initiative tries to impact the neighbors, for which the municipal government chooses to create and expose three landfills that contain all kinds of waste. They are located in prominent places in the local geography, such as the town square, the roundabout on the way up to La Corujera and on Carretera España, opposite the uphill to the Tosca Ana María neighborhood.
With the premise of trying to reach the largest possible number of inhabitants and cause the necessary impact to promote neighborhood awareness, in each of these locations and next to the improvised landfills, there is a large poster with the legend «BE? or not SERdas, SERdos? You choose the Saint Ursula you prefer, that is the question ». With this approach, the municipal government explains that it is intended “to provoke reflection in those who throw garbage and deposit belongings, pruning remains and debris anywhere without calling the free collection telephone number” available to the Consistory, 900 111 124.
Too many kilos
The need for this type of initiative is supported by the objective data left by the behavior of those who are not aware of it. In the period of the year that has elapsed so far, in Santa Úrsula they have collected more than 210,000 kilos of belongings and scrap metal that were deposited in public spaces. The monthly average exceeds 15,000 kilos, reaching 34,000 kilos in a few months.
Santaursulero mayor, Juan Acosta, assures that «From the City Council all the means are put to have a clean municipality and be careful, but it is useless if it is not accompanied by the collaboration and civility of the citizens. Along these lines, the councilor is aware that, “for this reason, we must continue to strengthen awareness with innovative and impactful actions like this one, so that the message reaches the population.”
The campaign, which will last for one month, also includes the broadcasting of advertisements on radio stations and broadcasting various publications through social networks. All this in the line of “raising awareness in the population about aspects such as recycling, cleaning pet excrement on roads and public places, the problem of cigarette butts and reducing the use of plastic in our day to day” , transmits the mayor.
More clean
To BE or not to be SERdo, SERda? It is an action that is part of the awareness-raising activity carried out by the municipality, Santa Úrsula + Limpia. This campaign started at the end of fiscal 2020. Its execution has included numerous publications on social networks, in addition to the distribution of brochures and the placement of posters, actions all of which have included messages whose sole purpose has been to “educate the population about the need to care for and keep clean our environment ”, explains the municipal government of Santa Úrsula, led by Juan Acosta.
