The City Council of Santa Cruz de Tenerife ordered this Monday the closure of Almáciga beach, after users and members of the Red Cross detected hydrocarbons in the water and in the sand. The Municipal Operational Coordination Center has reported this Tuesday that the area will remain closed at least during the morning as remains of the substance have been detected after a verification examination, “although its presence has decreased,” says the Consistory through its networks social. This situation will continue to be evaluated throughout the day in case it is feasible to modify it.

Due to this incident, the City Council ensures that the rest of the beaches in the town have been reviewed and “the presence of this type of hydrocarbons has not been detected, so the situation is normal on the municipal coastline.”
