Canary Coalition denounces that the cleaning and waste collection service contract has expired more than 10 years ago the specifications that must govern the new tender have not yet been approved. The consequence is an “unsustainable” situation for which he blames the “neglect and laziness of the local government group of the PSOE”, which has managed the city Hall since 2001, year of the award of the extended contract to the present.
The nationalist municipal spokesperson, Angela Cruz, explains that her party has been demanding the new cleaning contract for several terms, a document “pending approval by the Canary Islands Government, in order to continue with the bidding process.”
But Cruz warns that CC will be “very aware of the cuts in this essential service that the government team that manages the mayor, Mari Brito, plans to carry out.” He says this taking into account that the councilor “alleges that the document with which they are working is a very ambitious specification, which is why it is very expensive for the municipal coffers.”
The nationalist mayor emphasizes the deterioration registered by the service derived from the successive extensions of the contract, “which makes its benefits are very poor». A fact that he attributes to “the inaction of the socialist rulers”, the consequence of which is “the dirt in the streets, the absence of good and continued maintenance on sidewalks, lighting, rain and asphalt”. Ángela Cruz also assures that the deficient cleaning that affects several localities “is far from the idyllic image that the local government is trying to sell” that the PSOE forms.
The Municipal Group of CC demands as a priority to correct “the poor condition of many sidewalks, streets and common spaces as well as the danger posed by unfenced lots.” All this “shows a very unpleasant image of the municipality.”
Due to this situation, from the Canary Coalition they demand that the PSOE “prioritize cleaning and caring for our environment, since there have been many neighbors who have told us that they are tired of living with this situation of neglect and dirt.” As an example of this “laziness”, he alludes to the “state of neglect, lack of maintenance and putting into use of the two fountains found in Punta Larga, next to Avenida Marítima.”
