The Cabildo de Tenerife, through the Roads area, undertakes the landscaping of the TF-1 junction that gives access to the nuclei of Chimiche, El Río and Las Maretas, in the municipality of Granadilla de Abona. This intervention covers an area of approximately 4,500 square meters on both sides of the South Highway. The works have a budget of 138,448 euros. The first vice president and counselor for Roads, Enrique Arriaga, explains that “since this link was built, there had been no intervention in it.” “Now the surface will be fixed with basalt stone and flowerbeds will be created in which native vegetation will be planted in accordance with the landscape of the area.”

Arriaga highlights the Cabildo’s commitment to improving the landscape integration of green areas associated with island highways. The purpose is to equip them and carry out the subsequent maintenance of the surfaces, taking into account that the management will be carried out in a sustainable way. For this purpose, reclaimed water will be used for irrigation and remote management systems for water resources.

The insular director of Roads, Tomás Félix García, has pointed out that «part of the work will include reducing soil erosion, eliminating invasive plant species and using ornamental flora species with great environmental adaptability, in order to integrate roads in the landscape and facilitate its maintenance ”. For two months the crews of conservation, improvement and cleaning services of the green areas will rehabilitate this link. With these landscaping actions, the carbon footprint associated with maintenance work or the consumption of resources such as fertilizers and phytosanitary products is reduced.
