The Cabildo has managed to reduce the improvement works of the Heliodoro Rodríguez López Stadium to just two months, which, as announced by the Minister of Sports, Concepción Rivero, will end in September.
Rivero indicates in a statement that “we have made a great effort to get the stadium ready, after years without maintenance.” The investment has been of 2.5 million euros in lights, improvement of toilets and repair of corridors, among other actions.
The duration of the works drops to only two months when the execution was scheduled for five. Concepción Rivero, indicates that the stadium will premiere lighting fixtures on September 19 to comply with the new regulations on lighting required by the Professional Football League (LFP).
Rivero details in this regard: «The forecast we have is that the works can be completed in just 60 days, despite the fact that, in addition to replacing the lights, other works are being carried out such as reinforcing the treatment of the pillars that support the field lights , the repair of pipes, revision of the electrical transformer and various actions in the field of safety ».
“The structure that supports these lights, which had never been maintained, has been improved,” explains Rivero, and “work has been done on them to guarantee the safety of the people who come to the stadium.” In addition, he values, “the facility can be expanded if necessary without having to undertake major new works.” In any case, the counselor of Cs considers that “the Heliodoro will require new interventions next year to renew the water supply facilities, changing rooms and toilets”. The lights are already installed in the four turrets corresponding to the corners. This same week the same will be done with the one in the San Sebastián stands and with the Tribuna marquee.
Although the Smartbank League already began last Saturday with CD Tenerife as a venue in the Heliodoro, there are still pending works such as the concreting of the perimeter corridor to the field, Popular and Herradura Baja bleachers sectors and some simple connection, which will be completed in mid-September.
For the start of the season at Rodríguez López, some toilets, corridors and sectors have not been available to the public. Nor has it been possible to use the canteens, and smoking or eating has been prohibited within the anticovid measures.
