The Insular Ring of Social Policies now includes 37 non-profit entities and has received in the last two years, under the mandate of the current island government team, funding of four million euros.

The Minister of Social Action, Marián Franquet, explains: “Around 31,000 people throughout the island benefit, directly or indirectly, from this social support network, whose public financial endowment has increased by 120 percent.” Franquet informs that 13 volunteer organizations have joined the Insular Ring in the last two years. They have increased, from 24 in 2019, by 54 percent.

The counselor values: “Specialized island services have always been concentrated in metropolitan areas and this left people residing in the rest of the territory at a disadvantage.” For this reason, he stresses, “it was necessary to have a closer offer to facilitate access regardless of where you live.”

The projects covered by the Insular Ring of Social Policies are developed in areas such as attention to social exclusion, cognitive impairment, dementia, Parkinson’s, sensory and physical disability, mental health, people suffering from chronic diseases or socio-labor inclusion of those with different intellectual capacities ”.

The counselor highlights the “essential” role of third sector entities in all this infrastructure and the collaboration of city councils. Among the services provided, training, awareness and prevention actions stand out, as well as other more specific multidisciplinary intervention by different professionals.
