The mayor of The lagoon, Luis Yeray Gutiérrez, expresses his disagreement with the planned interventions on the municipality’s coastline, and more specifically in Punta del Hidalgo, for the Tidal Pool Master Plan, released by the Ministry of Tourism of the Canary Islands Government.
“This proposal does not agree with the development line that we have proposed for two years in the City Council”, assures the mayor, who states “very serious doubts regarding the environmental impact of the actions that are proposed in an area of high scenic value on our coast and that public institutions must preserve ”.
“We value the will of the Ministry of Tourism to draw up a strategy to improve our coastline, but a plan of these characteristics it cannot be done with the back to the municipalities involved, without previously establishing any type of agreement, and, especially, without informing or taking into account the opinion of the inhabitants of the area themselves, who are the first to be affected by this project, ”says the mayor. The municipal councilor announces his intention to take this position to the Local Government Board next week to later transfer it to the Government of the Canary Islands.
“This group of municipal government is very clear about the strategic lines in terms of improvement and preservation of natural spaces and of a sustainable use of our coastline, defending the uniqueness and quality of our bathing areas ”, he points out Luis Yeray Gutierrez.
“The best example is precisely the path of La Punta del Hidalgo, known as Camino de la Costa, which has recovered the Blue Flag this summer, after several years, and which is a recognition of our work in improving and restoration of this coastal natural and ethnological heritage. It is in this line that we will continue to put all our efforts and we encourage the other administrations to collaborate with us “, concludes the mayor.
