The Department of Tourism of Candelaria will celebrate two routes through the municipality the next two Fridays (days 20 and 27), with the purpose of highlighting the value of the agri-food heritage of Barranco Hondo and Igueste through the pilgrimage to Villa Mariana. At 6:00 p.m. this Friday, the Pilgrimage route along the Camino Viejo will begin, a path that connects Machado (El Rosario) with Barranco Hondo. Emphasis will be placed on how the existence of the road changes and modifies the lives of the inhabitants who settle around it, making them participate in pilgrimages and processions, until the appearance of alternatives such as the Camino del Chorrillo, from the 18th century. Attendees must be in the Plaza de Barranco Hondo at 5:30 p.m.
Food treasures of the old way is celebrated on the 27th, with an itinerary that, in addition to the route, focuses the interest on addressing the elements of subsistence and on how the pilgrimage changes over time. It will begin in Barranco Hondo, with a very global vision of this town. Throughout the activity, you will travel along the Camino Viejo de Candelaria, touring its natural landscape and delving into its agri-food history, until reaching Igueste de Candelaria, a town where attendees will visit various places of ethnographic interest. The meeting point is the Plaza de Igueste, at 5:30 p.m.
