The PP denounces that “in the worst economic moment in our history, the Cabildo does not have a tourist strategy for the recovery of the main industry.” The counselor Manuel Fernández accuses Pedro Martín of “hiding behind a contract from Tenerife Tourism, hired by the PSOE, to respond to the complaints of the opposition.” He adds that it “hides behind old-fashioned concepts such as low season to justify Tenerife’s absence in the ranking of the main tourist destinations for British by the giant TUI UK.”
The Tenerife Tourism data itself, explains Fernández, “indicates that in 2019 – the last calendar year without Covid – tourism maintained record figures, with only two months of less activity, May and September.” And he insists: «It has been more than ten years that the sector has not talked about seasons; If the employee obviates this, there are only two options: either he is unaware of the reality of the sector and is not prepared for the position he occupies, or he wants to deceive citizens ».
The popular advisor insists that «the fact that Tenerife does not appear in the ranking of tourist destinations of TUI UK should concern us all, since it indicates a treacherous lack of planning and strategy of our Island to position ourselves in the tourist market, in the one that after more than a year of absolute hiatus, the competition is tougher than ever ».
Manuel Fernández accuses Pedro Martín of “hiding” behind a “hired hired by the Socialist Party in the public society Turismo de Tenerife to answer the criticisms of the opposition, instead of showing his face.”
Fernández recalls that “for the first time in history, there is no representation of the opposition parties on the Tenerife Tourism Board of Directors, despite a plenary agreement that mandates it.” To this he adds that “we have been without a Tourism Minister since April 7”, something that, in Fernández’s opinion, “shows how unimportant this sector is for the president of the Cabildo, despite being our main economic industry.”
