The Cabildo recalls that “the burning of stubble during the alert can be sanctioned with up to 6,000 euros.” The Minister for the Environment and Security, Isabel García, indicates that the Island “remains on high alert due to high temperatures.” Remember that “if negligence leads to a fire, it can constitute a crime punishable by up to 6 years in prison or even 20 if the fire endangers people’s lives.” That, he adds, “in addition to large fines and the obligation to compensate for the damage caused.”

García adds: “The heat wave makes it exceed 40 degrees and throughout today (yesterday) there have been two outbreaks of fire, which have been quickly controlled.” The counselor concludes: “From the Cabildo we call for prudence and extreme precautions in all forest and rural environments.”
