
The Department of Works, Infrastructures and Accessibility of the City Council of La Laguna is immersed in the execution of the Reform, Expansion and Improvement (RAM) works in some thirty infant and primary education centers in the municipality. These actions, which are carried out every summer so that schools can start the school year in adequate conditions, focus on this occasion on promoting the safety and health of infrastructures and facilities.
Thus, the councilor responsible for the area, Josimar Hernández, explained that most of the interventions consist of “the maintenance, conservation and modernization of spaces and services, prioritizing those of greater urgency, after they had to redirect themselves to its adaptation and adaptation to guarantee compliance with health regulations and recommendations against COVID-19 ”.
Among the tasks that are currently being developed, is the improvement of accessibility, with the execution of ramps and elimination of architectural barriers. In addition, the rehabilitation of enclosure walls, fencing, sewerage, plumbing, electricity, garden cleaning, renovation of pavements and blinds and the repair of dampness and waterproofing, among others.
The mayor highlighted in this regard that these works “will allow the educational community to start the school year in better conditions and without having to suffer the inconvenience caused by this type of action, which will be completed when classes start to offer greater comfort to students and teachers ”.
Technical criteria and requests
“After the challenge of adapting the classrooms and other spaces to the security measures to protect people from the pandemic – Josimar Hernández continued explaining – this summer we have been able to reinforce the work aimed at improving and modernizing the buildings and ordinary services, especially those that are in a greater state of deterioration due to the passage of time and that do not adjust to the needs and demands of the educational community ”.
To decide where to act, the councilor pointed out that technical criteria have been followed and the requests of the directors of the schools have been taken into account.
