Loro Parque regrets the death of Ula, the last killer whale born in its facilities and daughter of the well-known Morgan. As explained by the zoo Tenerife In his social networks, the animal fell ill a few months ago and, despite a first recovery, he has suffered a relapse that has finally ended his life.
“With immense pain and sadness,” the Tenerife zoo expressed the death of the animal, which a necropsy will be performed to know the causes of his death “counting on experts in cetacean pathology”.
According to the Loro Parque publication, right now “it is impossible to explain what the loss of little Ula It means to the Loro Parque family, and especially to the Orca Ocean team, who went out of their way for her every day. ”
“A few months ago we shared with you our concern for your Health after he fell ill and became in a very critical situation, but, thanks to a great team of professionals and their tireless effort and dedication, we managed to stabilize him and move forward “, reads the publication of the Puerto de la Cruz park in the one that adds that a few days ago Ula showed again “down and without spirit”.
He assures that he responded “immediately” to start all the medical procedures to analyze his state of health and carry out tests to know “the reason for your discouragement”. “Unfortunately, a few hours ago, Ula left us,” says the zoo.
The history
Ula was born in September 2018 and was a joy for the zoo especially since her mother is the well-known orca Morga. This specimen, arrived at Loro Parque after appearing lost in the Norwegian Sea, has been the subject of constant criticism for the Tenerife facilities. Many environmental groups have insisted on his release, even going to court. However, from the Tenerife zoo there was always insistence on the impossibility of his release, especially after it was discovered that he suffers from a hearing impairment.
For this reason, when Ula was born, the institution took the opportunity to express Morgan’s adaptation to Orca Ocean. Even its president, Wolfgang Kiessling, said a few days later that “the mother and the girl have already adapted perfectly.”
Now when the animal I was about to turn three years old, Morgan has had to say goodbye to her calf. It is not the first time that Loro Parque mourns the death of one of the killer whales born in its facilities. It already happened with Vicky in 2012, with the exception that on that occasion the orca calf did not reach the first birthday.
This way, of the three killer whales born in Loro Parque, only Adam remains alive.
