The Ministry of Public Works, Transport and Housing of the Government of the Canary Islands, led by Sebastián Franquis, has put out to tender the drafting of the layout and construction project of the La Laguna Ring section that includes the connection with the Vía de Ronda (TF-13) and the area of the northern region of the Island, through the Mesa Mota or Gorgolana tunnel. The action aims to reduce the traffic density current in the area and the contract to draft this project will have a budget of 551,890 euros and an execution period of 10 months. “It is a historic claim and we have to congratulate ourselves for this first step,” declared yesterday the mayor of La Laguna, the socialist Luis Yeray Gutiérrez.
The tunnel that has been planned allows to eliminate the passage through Las Canteras to all the traffic coming from Tegueste, Tejina, Valle de Guerra, Bajamar and Punta del Hidalgo towards the TF-1 highway, that is, more than 18,000 vehicles per day, which which has historically been a bottleneck in this part of the Via de Ronda. For this reason, the General Directorate of Infrastructures of the Canarian Government has promoted in the last two years a solution that has been agreed with the technical services of the Cabildo de Tenerife and the municipalities of San Cristóbal de La Laguna and Tegueste, now being reflected with the tender for the drafting of this project.
This tender, with the technical name ‘TF-5, La Laguna road network. Section: connection with the TF-13, Mesa Mota-Gorgolana tunnel ‘, will define the road between the end of the Vía de Ronda and the TF-13, already in the municipality of Tegueste. The tunnel connects two sections of the TF-13, eliminating the passage through Las Canteras and the Las Mercedes link and thus ends the connection of the Vía de Ronda, which had not been completed, with the area of Tegueste under Table Mountain Mota or La Gorgolana.
This road has been planned to become the main communication route with the northern part of the municipality, with the aim of improving the congestion situation of the current road as it passes through the rural settlement of Las Canteras.
The project is included in the Special Territorial Plan for the Management of the Road System of the Metropolitan Area of Tenerife and included in annex I of the agreement signed between the Ministry of Development and the Public Administration of the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands in matters of Roads 2018-2027 .
Important
The mayor of La Laguna, Luis Yeray Gutiérrez, celebrated the bidding for the drafting of this project. “This is the most important action for the Northeast Region in the last 30 years in terms of roads,” he said. “As mayor, I have repeatedly asked the Government of the Canary Islands to address this historic claim of the municipality and we must congratulate ourselves because today [ayer] “This first step of a fundamental work is taken,” he continued, “which will mean an extraordinary improvement for the displacement of the thousands of residents of Tejina, Valle de Guerra, Bajamar and Punta del Hidalgo, as well as the municipality of Tegueste”.
“The completion of the Vía de Ronda will bring the Northeast Region closer to the rest of the municipality and the Island, since it will alleviate the load of vehicles in the Las Canteras area, where there are currently continuous retentions, and will facilitate the flow of traffic “Said the mayor, who showed his confidence that the bidding and drafting of the project” meet the established deadlines “and, once approved,” proceed to the immediate hiring of a work of this magnitude. “
“It is shown once again that the close collaboration with the Government of the Canary Islands and with the Cabildo translates into large investments for our municipality and we must continue working in this same line, both in terms of the road network of highways, in which there are still actions of enormous importance planned for the next few years, as in other infrastructures ”, concluded Gutiérrez.
