The councilor of the Popular Party in the Cabildo de Tenerife Manuel Fernández has demanded the urgent construction of the regasification plant in the municipality of Granadilla de Abona as a “first step” in the transition to a “more sustainable” energy production.
Fernández recalled this Wednesday in a statement that his political training has spent months promoting agreements between different administrations for the construction of the regasification plant in the port of Granadilla to produce natural gas, energy “cleaner and cheaper” than currently produced.
All this after knowing that the power plants of Tenerife occupy the sixth place among the most polluting in all of Spain, according to data from the Ministry of Transition cited by the popular people of Tenerife.
This proposal of regasificationFernández recalled, he obtained “broad support” and a plenary agreement from the island corporation, but they have also regretted that since then the president of the Cabildo, Pedro Martín (PSOE), has been “unable to impose himself” on the councilor of Ecological Transition of the regional Executive, José Antonio Valbuena, from the same party.
“We are not going to allow the action of this regional executive to mean a setback in the development and the path of our island towards a sustainable energy model, in line with the commitments acquired in the PECAN (Canary Islands Energy Plan) “, the counselor has warned.
On the other hand, Manuel Fernández has considered “discriminatory” that the Government of the Canary Islands is willing to build a regasification plant in Gran Canaria: “we deserve a balance of investment and opportunities”.
