Two weeks after taking office as the first mayor of El Tanque, Esther Morales yesterday convened an extraordinary plenary session to raise the new government proposal on the municipal organization chart, which only had the approval of the councilors of the government group since none of the opposition, Pablo Estévez and Heliodoro Dorta from Nueva Canarias and Faustino Alegría and Ofelia Romerey, from CC, attended the session.
The mayor has not made significant changes to the new governance structure. The six councilors maintain their areas and those held by Morales (Festivities, Economic Development, Commerce and Social Welfare) were distributed equitably and she was able to assume those that were the responsibility of the former mayor, Román Martín, disqualified from holding public office for twelve years for the opening and start-up of the nursing home in 2014, skipping legal procedures and awaiting another sentence for alleged irregular hiring.
Thus, from now on the president will be responsible for the areas of Finance, Urban Planning, Human Resources and Security while Jennifert Rosales will be in charge of Works and Services and Funeral Services, Equality and Youth.
Due to the Law of Rationalization and Sustainability of the Local Administration, the City Council of El Tanque can only have two councilors released full time by having less than 3.000 inhabitants (it has 2,652 according to the data of the INE of 2020). Until the beginning of July, they were Román Martín and Esther Morales and now they will be the latter and the mayor. The rest will be at 75% of the day.
In Culture, Sports, Parties and Citizen Participation, will continue to lead Jhonny Carmenaty, while in Lighting, Water, Agriculture, Environment, Housing and Accessibility and Mobility, will be David Gorrín; in Education, Social Welfare and Commerce, Councilor Ana Vanessa Hernández and in New Technologies and Tourism, Jesús Alberto Meneses. Melani Aguilar, who joined the government two days after the mayor replacing Román Martín, will take care of the Elderly, Childhood and Disability.
