Three agents of the Güímar Local Police, together with the municipal secretary, proceeded at noon yesterday to execute the seal of the San Pedro bread cooperative society, as well as the El Pan de Nara store, which is located there, for “Failure to respond to the closure notifications” of a file that began at the end of December and ended in February when the owner, Yurena Díaz, was given a period of four months to carry out the conditioning works of the premises to the current activity, in the face of neighborhood complaints about smoke, and after verifying, as the new mayor of Urbanism said yesterday – it has barely been a month -, Airam Puerta, “the dire conditions of the facilities.”
The seal, as read in the minutes, placed at the entrance of the bakery and the cafeteria, also includes the presence of two tanks “with a multitude of butane cylinders”, one in the parking lot and the other at the entrance, “for those who must take the corresponding security measures “. In this regard, Yurena Díaz, refers that “these deposits have the Cepsa certificate, which I suppose in turn will have it from Industry”, he commented. The record also states that there were “insults and shouts to the authorities present” when the agents placed the seal on the bakery and the cafeteria.
The closure of the bakery cooperative, with more than 40 years in the Fátima neighborhood, was ordered by the former councilor for Urbanism, Beatriz Perdomo. In February, the property was granted four months to carry out the refurbishment works on the furnaces and electrical system. In May, when the deadline had expired, Yurena Díaz requested an extension of two months, which according to her was granted, something that the socialist mayor and her colleague Airam Puerta deny, who also adds that “until June she did not present the project of works”, recalling that the closure had to be carried out from the first inspection, because “it is not possible, as they intend, to carry out works and continue with the open activity. It is not possible to make sourdough and have a drill next to it “, remarked Puerta, who recommended to the owner of the bakery” to carry out the works in a month or month and a half and reopen again “, something that yesterday she denied because” I I have already spent the savings and profits on the works carried out; I only have to adapt the bathrooms and the entire electrical system that they ask me. With this closure I am left without income and without the possibility of finishing the works, “he said. With this closure, seven people are now going on strike.
