The Governing Council of Cabildo of Tenerife has approved the award of the works for the refurbishment of the beachfront of Playa de Las Caletillas, in the municipality of Candelaria, for the amount of 1,884,072 euros.

The works will begin next September and have an expected execution period of 14 months, informs the island corporation in a statement.

These works, which will be carried out by the company Copisa Constructora Pirenaica, SA, are fully financed by the Ministry of Tourism of the Government of the Canary Islands under the agreement for the Rehabilitation of Infrastructures and Equipment in Tourist Areas signed with the Secretary of State for Tourism .

The Cabildo de Tenerife, through the Territory Planning, Historical Heritage and Tourism area, has been in charge of managing the entire bidding process.

The island president, Pedro Martin, highlights the importance of this action, “highly demanded” by the residents of the municipality, in which a global intervention will be carried out to adapt not only the seafront of Playa de Las Caletillas, that is, the promenade, but also its adjacent streets.

Martín explains that this environment is in a state of “very advanced deterioration, so, in addition to restoring it, it will be used to provide it with more space and to provide better access to the coast in the accesses to the promenade from the upper part and places of rest from which to contemplate the sea.

The Minister of Tourism, Industry and Commerce of the Government of the Canary Islands, Yaiza Castilla, highlights the importance of this type of action, which “considerably improves” the image of the islands as a top-level tourist destination.

Regarding the rehabilitation of the Las Caletillas promenade, Castilla points out that apart from getting a broader view of the horizon, leisure spaces will be created on the edge of the sea, a playground, sports area, fishing areas, terraces for shops and access to the sea.

For the mayor of Candelaria, María Concepción Brito, “the regeneration of the coast is one of our main objectives, so the beginning of the execution of this project is great news for our municipality, especially for the Las Caletillas area. , since it will contribute to revitalize and rehabilitate this stretch of the coast “.

Brito shows his satisfaction and celebrates the award of this work as a result of the work and coordination between the Tourism Department of the Government of the Canary Islands, the Council of Tenerife and the Candelaria City Council, and that it has had “a very active role” on the part of the Association of Neighbors El Pueblito.

Among the works to be carried out, the project to improve and refurbish the streets adjacent to Passeig Graciliano Ruiz Rodríguez and Calle Semidán, through which pedestrianization or restricted access of part of the aforementioned sites will be carried out, as well as such as the relocation of existing car parks.

In addition, the adaptation to the accessibility regulations of the Acaymo, Agarfa, Amiche and Garoé streets, the repaving of the entire area, the planting of new vegetation, the replacement of the supply network, wastewater treatment, irrigation network and new public lighting.
