The Municipal Socialist group in the City Council of La Orotava is concerned about the situation of the Municipal Schools for children. The school ‘Elisa González de Chávez’, located in El Mayorazgo, is closed, having not provided any service over the last year.
Besides, the Municipal Children’s School of La Candelaria del Lomo, ‘Astrophysics Irene González’, managed to date by the NGO Messengers for Peace, has announced its intention to stop providing the service as of November 9, aggravating an already complicated situation.
For the Municipal Socialist Group, families will be the most affected during the next school year they will find many difficulties to ensure the care of their sons and daughters.
From the PSOE, the CC government group is required to speedily resolve this serious problem. María Jesús Alonso, socialist councilor in the Villero City Council points out that “La Orotava deserves quality services and a public educational offer. Again, the abandonment of functions, the lack of a serious and rigorous commitment to a fundamental service for family conciliation and the absence of viable alternatives on the part of the government group may cause the closure of another Municipal Infant School, in a municipality like La Orotava, where many families are choosing to take their sons and daughters to other municipalities or the private offer “.
The PSOE highlights that La Orotava, a Childhood Friendly municipality and an Educator Municipality, boasts these two appointments while CC neglects early childhood education, the basis of the beginning of the educational period for boys and girls, leaving this stage without public offer in our Municipality of face to the next course. Clearly the management of CC in this matter leaves much to be desired.
The also socialist councilor Elena García insists that “the procedures to tender the Elisa de Chávez School in the Mayorazgo have been delayed and we very much fear that they will not be ready for the start of the new year. Worrying situation coupled with the cessation of the service of the Children’s School of Candelaria del Lomo, Astrophysicist Irene González “.
We reiterate our demand to CC, to ensure the permanence of a public offer in this initial educational stage and that implies the possibility of family and work conciliation for many families in La Orotava. Financial aid can be implemented to supply the service, since the affected families have to go to the private offer, when not to other municipalities, but we understand that this does not save the situation of the offer of Early Childhood Education in public Municipal Schools .
We are also aware – the PSOE insists – that they are working on the new specifications to put out the Elisa de Chávez Infant School of Mayorazgo, but this is insufficient, since they will not be ready to face with guarantees for the affected families the offer for the new course 22/23.
