SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Aug 6 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Ministry of Ecological Transition, Fight against Climate Change and Territorial Planning of the Government of the Canary Islands, through the General Directorate of Fight against Climate Change, has issued a resolution that will control vehicle access to the Las Mimbreras, in the Garajonay National Park (La Gomera), to “guarantee the conservation of the environment and the safety and enjoyment of its visitors”.

In this way, the control will be established on the track to Las Mimbreras, in the area of the El Cedro stream, between 09:30 and 17:00, to ensure that the influx of vehicles to the area does not exceed the maximum established quota, thus Once the capacity is exceeded, an informant will notify users who intend to access the entrance of the track, leaving the entrance restricted, as reported by the Government of the Canary Islands in a press release.

However, vehicle access to Caserío del Cedro will not be affected by these restrictions, in such a way that residents and visitors will be able to circulate without problem on the track, without this measure affecting the practice of hiking in the area either. nor to access on foot.

The Ministry has reported that those who make their reservation through the official website of national parks will have priority for entry over those who do not, who will only be able to access when there are free places.

Regarding this, the regional councilor of the area, José Antonio Valbuena, indicates that the area of the El Cedro stream supports a large load of vehicles in the periods of greater influx of visitors to the park, even generating traffic jams and security problems.

To which the general director of the Fight against Regional Climate Change, José Domingo Fernández, explains that this measure seeks to “rationalize” the use and enjoyment of the park, to which he added that this is an area of ”great environmental value” reason why the main objective is “to guarantee its conservation and the security of the visitors”.
