Likewise, according to the autonomous government department, the Archipelago yesterday regretted three new deaths linked to the effects of the pathogen. The deceased, an 83-year-old man in Gran Canaria, a 100-year-old woman in Tenerife and a 74-year-old man in La Palma, were suffering from previous pathologies and remained hospitalized. In the course of the last seven days, the Archipelago has added 16 deaths to its statistics. It should be noted that such a high figure was not recorded in a week since May, specifically in the one between days 3 and 9, when the Ministry reported the death of 18 people. Since the outbreak of the pandemic, 827 patients diagnosed with the disease have lost their lives in the region.
Regarding the new daily cases broken down by islands, it must be said that Tenerife added 315 clinical pictures yesterday; Gran Canaria 276; Lanzarote six; Fuerteventura 23; La Palma five; and El Hierro one. La Gomera, for its part, managed to keep its overall record unchanged.
Right now there are 14,497 active infections, 528 more than those found up to last Saturday. In just two weeks, the figure has increased by 72.7%, because as of Sunday, July 18, there were 8,396 people affected by the microorganism.
Most of the patients with covid are in Tenerife, where 8,351 patients have the condition. Gran Canaria follows, with 5,034; Fuerteventura, with 719; Lanzarote, with 183; La Palma, with 138; La Gomera, with 59; and El Hierro, with 11.
The hospital situation also experienced variations since the last balance. In fact, in Canarian hospitals there are already 464 people with Covid-19 admitted to the ward –22 more than in the previous 24 hours– and 84 in intensive care units (ucis) –two more. Tenerife continues to be the island that supports the greatest healthcare pressure. There, 314 affected occupy a treble bed –10 more– and 53 a critical bed –three more–.
In the last hours, 95 epidemiological discharges were issued. With these, there are already 65,206 people who have managed to overcome the pathology in the Archipelago, 80.9% of the total afflicted since the beginning of the crisis (80,530).
Right now, the cumulative incidence in the last seven days stands at 246.15 cases per 100,000 inhabitants –2.21 points more than the previous Sunday–, while that of the last 14 days is 498.45 on the same number of people –59.7 more–.
So far, health professionals have performed 1,838,245 diagnostic tests on the Islands, of which 6,657 were performed on Saturday.
