A school transport bus ignited this Wednesday, 16 October, in the Las Llanadas-Chanajiga region, within the Tenerife municipality of Los Realejos. Thankfully, there were no reported injuries.
The vehicle was intended to complete the routine journey to CEIP Palo Blanco but experienced a fire prior to commencing its service, ensuring that no children were on board.
The initial attempts to extinguish the fire were conducted by the driver and the attendant of the bus; however, these efforts proved inadequate.
In light of this incident, emergency services were mobilised, involving the Local Police of Los Realejos, Tenerife Consortium Firefighters, the Forestry Brigade (Brifor), and the National Police Corps. Their prompt response prevented the flames from spreading to adjacent forestry.
The road has been temporarily closed to traffic while Brifor personnel continue with cooling measures in the area to avert any potential flare-ups.
The blaze resulted in the complete destruction of the vehicle, which was consumed by fire. Consequently, the transport company has arranged a replacement service to guarantee the students’ transport to the educational institution.
